New Mexico Senator Jeff Bingaman looks on as Mimbres Valley Craft Brewing Co.'s Bryan Reedy tours the Senator around the 3 month old craft brewery.

New Mexico Senator Jeff Bingaman (D), and his staff, visited Mimbres Valley Brewing Company in Deming, New Mexico, recently. Though not a current co-sponsor of S.3339, the Senator made a stop at the brewery, that opened just 3 months prior, while in town for another meeting. While on a tour of the brewery, MVBC's Bryan Reedy was eager to share with Senator Bingaman the benefit such legislation would have on his small business, as well as, touching on other issues that are important to small brewers. The 500 bbls brewery hopes that with support from leaders such as Bingaman, the small South Eastern New Mexico brewery can quickly expand to 1500 bbls with the purchase of additional production equipment and the creation of "a job or two," which are in short supply in the current economic climate.

Introduced earlier this year, by Massachusetts Senator John Kerry, S. 3339 looks to stimulate job creation by freeing up funds that, for small brewers, currently go to excise taxes. By decreasing the amount of excise tax paid by small brewers, proponents expect that new jobs will be needed for craft brewers that are doing business in every state in the country. To date, the bill has gathered 28 sponsors from both sides of the aisle.
