In this session, the co-chairs of the Brewers Association Safety Subcommittee, Rachel Bell and Zach Perrotte, will discuss emerging safety topics within the industry. Each rapid-fire mini lecture is designed to let you know about new safety considerations for your brewery.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the hazards specific to using nitrogen gas and how to use it safely
  • Explore how to tailor safety training to your front-of-house staff
  • Learn techniques to build a safety culture and reduce burnout
  • Hear about upcoming Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) emphasis programs
  • Discuss intermediate first aid, including NARCAN and automated external defibrillators (AEDs)

About the Speakers

Rachel Bell

Rachel Bell, Health and Safety Manager

CANarchy Craft Brewery Collective

Rachel Bell (she/her) is the Health and Safety Manager for the CANarchy Craft Brewery Collective. She has worked in craft beer for eight years and craft beer safety for six. She has a master's in anthropology with an emphasis on ancient brewing, and has worked for several breweries across the country including Monday Night, Kiitos, and von Trapp. She is currently the co-chair of the Brewers Association Safety Subcommittee and lives in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Zach Perrotte

Zach Perrotte, General Manager

Untold Brewing

Zach Perrotte (he/him) is co-chair of the Brewers Association Safety Subcommittee and general manager for Untold Brewing in Hingham, Massachusetts. Zach has done a little bit of everything in the brewing industry from bartending, event planning, sales, and financial planning to cellaring, packaging, deliveries, and operations management. Zach is a Certified Cicerone and has started beer judging through the Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP). In his spare time Zach enjoys hiking, especially mountains with nearby breweries.
