What’s your current position at your brewery, and how did you get started in the craft brewing industry?

I’m head brewer at Denver Beer Co. I quit my crappy sales job in 2007, went to Siebel, and was hired on as assistant brewer at Rockyard Brewing shortly after.

What’s new at Denver Beer?

We are opening a third facility (brewpub) next spring in Arvada, Colo. We also just took on some additional space at our production brewery and are building that out as well.

What’s the best part of being a part of the craft brewing community?

For me, the continual learning that occurs brewing with fellow brewers is amazing. I think it’s unique in our industry that we share so much valuable information and techniques with each other. I truly believe we all make each other better and I’m proud of the growth and quality of the industry overall.

Name a favorite food and beer pairing.

Doppelbock with Pecorino Toscano cheese. The nuttiness of the cheese and caramel malty sweetness of the doppelbock play together perfectly.

What’s your biggest accomplishment unrelated to your job?

Creating three beautiful children with my wife and giving them a happy home to grow up in.

What’s your favorite beer that your brewery does not produce?

Rodenbach Grand Cru.

What’s the most memorable travel destination at which you’ve had a chance to sample the local beer?

My wife and I had a fun night at the Old Harbor Brewery in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico. The beer was just OK but the vibe was awesome and the piano player surprised my wife by singing her happy birthday along with the whole bar. I think it’s since closed down but it was a fun place.

What do you like to do in your time away from the brewery?

Spend time with my family, hike, run, watch sports, and hear live music.
