What’s your current position at your brewery, and how did you get started in the craft brewing industry?

I am the brewery tour manager and a beer server at Societe Brewing Company [in San Diego, Calif.]. I got into craft beer and the craft brewing industry through the influence of my dad. He kept taking me out to Alpine Beer Company and not-so-subtly encouraging me to apply to work there. Alpine was my first beer job. So yeah, I can say that having a kegerator full of Alpine beer at home during my formative years helped get me into craft beer.

What’s new at Societe Brewing?

The tour program. We are finally able to share our story and our philosophy on beer. We are finally able to share our space. We have the opportunity to really showcase what we are all about here: the beer.

What’s the best part of being a part of the craft brewing community?

Educating people about craft beer. That’s an opportunity that all of us in the craft beer community should not overlook. Also, the feeling of connectedness between all breweries. Even if you have had no experience with another brewery before, there is still an underlying bond with the people who work there.

What do you like to do in your time away from the brewery?

I play soccer, watch a lot of reality TV, and spend too much time on Reddit. I also love to spend time with my dad.

What’s your favorite food and beer pairing?

I brought back some fantastic chocolate from Belgium and paired it with Alpine Great (an American-style barleywine).

What’s your biggest accomplishment unrelated to your job?

Graduating from San Diego State University with a degree in psychology.

What’s your favorite beer that your brewery does not produce?

It would seem too easy to say Alpine Nelson, but…yeah…Nelson. Kentucky Breakfast Stout from Founders is also a real treat to enjoy.

What’s the most memorable travel destination at which you’ve had a chance to sample the local beer?

Bruges, Belgium was easily the most memorable. If you have never been, make it a point to go.
