Heat energy is essential to brewing, but it can also result in life-changing injuries. In this session, gather expert advice on how to avoid and respond to kettle boilovers, scalds from hot liquids and steam, and direct contact burns.

Matt Stinchfield, Author

Matt Stinchfield (he/him) is a career occupational safety and health expert, and author of Brewery Safety: Principles, Processes, and People (Brewers Publications, 2023). For seven years he was the Brewers Association (BA) Safety Ambassador and is in his 11th year as a member of the BA Safety Subcommittee. Matt is a frequent speaker at conferences, state guilds, and webinars. He is lead instructor for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)-funded Hazard Reduction Practices for Cleaning Draught Beer Lines course. Matt offers safety coaching to beverage manufacturers and their insurers. He designed and operated an award-winning 15-barrel packaging brewpub. In his spare time, Matt enjoys foraging mushrooms and wrangling trout.
