U.S. Senator Ben Cardin was in attendance for the unveiling and grand opening of Heavy Seas Beer’s recently expanded brewery. The Senator is an advocate for small brewers in Maryland and across the country and has demonstrated this through his support of federal excise tax reduction legislation. Senator Cardin is also a member of the Senate Small Brewers Caucus.

Heavy Seas Founder Hugh Sisson was in attendance for the Senator’s visit and encourages small brewers to connect with elected officials. Sisson states, “It is important that our industry is active in all levels of politics, otherwise we are at risk of having our interests overlooked. The first step in being active is having a good working relationship with as many of your representatives as possible. All of the ones I deal with happen to be great people–so it makes that relatively easy.”

During the visit Senator Cardin tasted one of Heavy Sea’s newest brews–Deep Six Porter.
