Dave Logsdon

What’s your current position at your brewery, and how did you get started in the craft brewing industry?

I am director and head brewer of Logsdon Farmhouse Ales (in Hood River, Ore.). I started working in the craft brewing industry as a founder of both Wyeast Laboratories and Full Sail Brewing Company.

What’s new at Logsdon Farmhouse Ales?

We have a new barrel-aged West Flanders style red ale called Far West Vlaming.

What’s your favorite part of being a part of the craft brewing community?

I have always enjoyed the camaraderie of many brewers I have met from all over the world.

What do you like to do in your time away from the brewery?

Our brewery is located on my farm so I don't get away too much. Actually I spend quite a bit of time tending to my cattle and horses along with our fledging Sharbeekse cherry orchard and hop crop.

What’s a favorite food and beer pairing?

At a recent dinner, one course pared Oregon black cod, grilled ramp potato, Totten Inlet mussels, and sweet pea broth with our Seizoen Bretta. Yum!

What’s your biggest accomplishment unrelated to brewing?

Raising my triplet daughters and seeing them grow into lovely young ladies.

What’s your favorite beer that your brewery does not produce?

A well balanced IPA.

What’s the most memorable travel destination at which you’ve had a chance to sample the local beer?

Traveling throughout Belgium many times over the years to meet some wonderful brewers and taste their fantastic beers, the first being Rodenbach Brewery. I spent much of the day meeting and drinking with Peter Bouckaert.
